The Detroit Pistons are likely to pick up the player option of Ersan Ilyasova, as San Van Gundy told Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. The player option is $8.4 million for the 2016-2017 season.

It is important to note that Van Gundy said that things could change, but Ilyasova should not have a problem getting the option picked up if he continues his successful play.

The power forward, known as the Turkish Thunder, was the 36th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Ilyasova played in Turkey for Yesilyurt (2003-04) and Ulkerspor (2004-05) before being drafted to the National Basketball Association

After getting drafted, the right-handed shooter took the court for the Tulsa 66ers in the NBA Development League. He went to FC Barcelona, which is in Spain, from 2009-2011 after being made a free agent. In July 2011, the forward got a multi-year deal from the Bucks. During the NBA lockout, Ilyasova played for Anadolu Efes in Turkey for the 2011-2012 season before returning to the NBA following the conclusion of the lockout. He re-signed with Milwaukee on a multi-year deal in July 2012.

Ilyasova was traded from the Bucks to the Pistons in exchange for Caron Butler and Shawne Williams in June of 2015.

"Ersan Ilyasova is a player we have coveted since we got to Detroit," Van Gundy said in a released statement just a few days after the trade happened in June. "Not only is he a proficient three-point shooter that can stretch the floor, he is a high-energy, hard-playing guy who fits extremely well with how we want to play. We are excited about what he can add to our team."

Believe it or not, Ilyasova made his NBA debut on November 1, 2006 against Detroit. He went 0-for-1 from the field across one minute and 14 seconds.

In the D-League, the 6-foot-10 righty averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. Across 486 career NBA games, Ilyasova has averaged 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. In 2015-16 with the Pistons, the 28-year-old is shooting 42.8 percent from the field, while having averages of 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.6 three-pointers per game.
