There has been much curiosity surrounding Wizards 2015 first round draft pick Kelly Oubre. Many Wizards fans did not know what to expect from the 19 year, who spent just one season at the University of Kansas. The wait was over as Oubre made his Wizards Summer League debut in a 89-77 loss to Phoenix Suns in Las Vegas.

Oubre started at shooting guard in his debut. After a sluggish start that included a less that stellar 1 for 7 shooting performance  from the field, Oubre settled down and showed why the Wizards were so high on him in the draft. Oubre finished with a team 20 points on 8 for 20 shooting but showed extreme athleticism and flashes on brilliance on the defensive side of the ball. Oubre also showed his versatility by adding a team high 10 rebounds.

The Wizards appeared overwhelmed and overmatched early as the Suns jumped out to a 20-9 led after one quarter. The Wizards kept it competitive and made numerous runs, but was never a realistic threat to the Suns. The Suns featured  a line up that included several players who are expected to garner meaningful minutes for the Suns regular season squad. Phoenix was led by TJ Warren who led all scorers with 22. Former University of Maryland big man Alex Len chipped in 17.

Even in the loss Oubre showed much promise in his debut. Oubre was considered a project coming out of Kansas. His athleticism and potential to be a great defender ,were expected to be his strong points coming into the professional ranks. His offensive game which is considered "a work in progress" was better than expected. Second round pick Aaron White scored 4 points in his first taste of professional action. Both buckets were scored on thunderous put backs, that showed his athleticism and blue collar playing style that he must exhibit to have a shot at making the team. Undrafted Rookie Jarrid Famous chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Wizards will be back in action tomorrow at 4 when they take on the D-league select team.
