Tim Duncan has decided to exercise his player option for the final year of his contract worth $10.3 million, meaning Duncan will not retire and will play at least one more season for the Spurs. It was originally believed that Duncan would opt out to sign a two-year deal while taking a pay cut.

However, now, the five-time champion will revisit his future with the Spurs next summer once his contract expires.

Duncan, 38, continues to put up terrific numbers as he averaged 15.4 points and 10.0 rebounds a game en route to his fifth title. Duncan has never missed the NBA playoffs in his 16 year career. He most recently broke the record for most double-doubles in the playoffs surpassing Magic Johnson. He also broke the record for most minutes played in the playoffs surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Tim Duncan’s legacy will resume as he will have another excellent chance at winning a ring.

"Very happy. That's great news. Love playing with him and hope it lasts forever," said Tony Parker about Duncan's return.
