Match Summary:

The knockout round will begin for these two nations inside Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on June 22, 2015.

United States

The Stars & Stripes are positively heading into the knockout round as leaders with only one goal conceded in their previous Group D or 'Group of Death' triumph. They managed to silence the Socceroos, eliminating a subpar first half with a 3-1 win over 10th ranked Australia.

Jillian Ellis's side managed a scoreless draw against fifth ranked Sweden who had not found themselves at all as it seems in the group stage. Finally, they demonstrated a quality performance against Nigeria, giving Hope Solo a second clean sheet with a 1-0 victory.

Colombia

Los Cafeteros, the 28th best team in the world according to the FIFA Women's World Rankings List, have alarmed spectators by crawling into the knockout round with a third place finish in Group F. They come into the match with the lowest chance of making the quarterfinal out of all nations according to ESPN Power Index (USA 95% favorite).

Colombia has pulled off the biggest upset so far in defeating France 2-0 in the group stage. France are third in the FIFA Women's World rankings list,  have already qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating South Korea 3-0 on June 21, 2015. A 1-1 draw versus Mexico and a 2-1 loss to England leaves them in a tough fixture.

Colombia are also the second South American team behind Brazil to make it to the knockout round in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Gameplan and Prediction:

The last match between the United States and Colombia resulted in a 3-0 win in favor of the USA during the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Lady Andrade was a signature player to remember in that fixture when she gave United States forward and former player of the year Abby Wambach a black eye.

Colombian players have spoken about the game to the media:

Lady Andrade:

“They belittle us. They think we’re a team they’re going to walk all over and it will be an easy game for them.

“We’re going to beat them since they like to talk so much.”

 (USA Today)

Yoreli Rincon:

"They don't have the heart we Colombians have." (@SoccerInsider on Twitter)

United States player Alex Morgan responded to the words of Colombian first team members:

Alex Morgan: “We want to let our actions speak on the field, and we don’t necessarily want to respond to that.”

Although Colombia defeated superpower France in the group stage, the defeat to England may otherwise lessen their chance at another historical upset. The United States gradually have become better on both sides of the primarily turf pitch, and are still looking into delivering a win they will view as sublime and colossally positive in achieving their objective of becoming FIFA Women's World Cup champions for a record third time.

Colombia will look to likewise accomplish what Australia did to Brazil on June 21, 2015 by defeating top of group Brazil to reach the quarterfinals.

Prediction of final: 3-1 in favor of ESPN Power Index and the United States of America.
