The 2024 edition of the Champions League is drawing to a close, and after an entertaining set of quarter-final ties, just four teams remain in the competition looking to lift this years coveted trophy.

With both fixtures this week taking place in Germany, let's take a look at the team news, key information and star players ahead of these crucial ties.

  • Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: European royalty go head to head

Bayern Munich, despite being part of the final four in this competition, may still be disappointed with the outcome of their season. Despite building an elite squad, including star striker Harry Kane from Tottenham, Bayern are not due to win any domestic trophies thanks to the unbelievable season Bayer Leverkusen are having. Their disappointment becomes more evident when these are the final matches of manager Thomas Tuchel's reign.

However, the 3-2 aggregate win over Arsenal in the previous round did give the Berlin-based side something to smile about, and a chance to add to their 10 European titles, and the first since their 1-0 victory over PSG in the 2020 final. Despite their lack of domestic success this year, it can still be argued that "Die Roten" have one of the strongest squads in this years tournament.

Manuel Neuer is in his 13th season as Munich number one, and has kept six clean sheets in his 20 appearances this year. Defensively backed up by Eric Dier, Dutch giant Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Kimmich, the back-line is capable of producing tie-winning moments, especially with Kimmich as he scored the only goal against Arsenal in the second-leg victory.

Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka hold down the midfield, offering balance in the centre of the park, whilst German talent Jamal Musiala offers attacking prowess, with his 10 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga this season. However, he may be a miss as he picked up a tendon injury during Bayern's 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning Spaniard Bryan Zarazoga may have to deputise in his role.

The front three will try to be as dangerous as ever. Harry Kane is still the Bundesliga top scorer with 35 goals, but injuries to Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman may see Erik Choupo-Moting and Raphael Guerreiro step in, meaning Bayern are shortchanged regarding their options for this crucial fixture, of which will be seen as a season changer for most fans.

On the other hand, Real Madrid have plenty of options to choose from. With only Dani Carvajal suspended for the match, and no players injured, Carlo Ancelotti can afford to pick his strongest squad to take a healthy advantage back to the Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg, to continue a stellar 2023/24 season.

"Los Blancos" are having a stellar season of their own. Top of La Liga by 13 points, their 1-0 away victory over Real Sociedad all but confirmed their title this season, with just one loss in 33 games this season showing how dominant Ancelotti and his side have been this season, even defeating Manchester City on penalties in the quarter finals.

The squad is definitely worthy of Real Madrid in my eyes. The return of Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal has made a secure defence even stronger, with Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez and Antonio Rudiger ensuring opposing teams struggle to score against Real. Even before opponents get to this defence, they still have elite French midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni to get by, with these two possibly making an appearance at full-back thanks to Carvajal's suspension.

Other midfielder options include the modern day legend Luka Modric, the veteran Toni Kroos and physical Federico Valverde, who still demonstrate their creativity in each game, with 18 assists between them in La Liga. Ahead of them, Jude Bellingham will aim to complete his world-class season, as his transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer has yielded 17 goals and four assists in La Liga, and a potential shout for this seasons Ballon D'Or.

In the attacking positions, Brazilian wingers Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo are guaranteed to get in on the act. With 33 goal contributions between the two attackers, the forwards show their dribbling excellence and clinicality so regularly that they are shoe-ins for goals on Tuesday. From the bench, stalwart striker Joselu and Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler may look to be a threat.

With two world-class squads going head to head, this game is a must watch. Whoever heads to Spain with the advantage will find themselves with a huge leg-up for a spot in this years Champions League final.

This match kicks off at 8pm GMT on Tuesday 30th April, at the Allianz Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Nobody would have expected Borussia Dortmund to come this far. A 4-2 win at home against Atletico Madrid guaranteed BVB a surprise place in the semi-finals, a first appearance since 2013 where they defeated Real Madrid to reach the final. However, the job is not done yet for Edin Terzic's men, as they still need to defeat a strong PSG side.

"Die Schwarzgelben" are not having their finest season. They sit 5th in the Bundesliga, 23 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and 11 points ahead of their nearest competitor Freiburg. Additionally, their last match ended in a 4-1 defeat to RB Leipzig. However, a final appearance in the most prestigious competition in Europe would lift the mood at Signal Iduna Park, and the squad is certainly capable of pulling off this achievement.

Mats Hummels continues to be the heartbeat of the defence, partnering fantastically with Nico Schlotterbeck, with both players ranking in the top 7% for passes amongst centre-backs as they are trusted with the bulk of the possession. Ian Maatsen continues to impress on loan from Chelsea, as he has become first-choice left-back for Terzic, whilst Emre Can continues to hold down the midfield.

Jadon Sancho continues his career revival from right-wing, with the Englishman partnering up with Marcel Sabitzer to inspire creativity within the squad, whilst Niclas Fullkrug continues his excellent recent form, with 14 goals in 38 games, including one goal and one assist in the 4-2 victory against Atletico Madrid. However, BVB may be without some key attackers in this tie, as Donyell Malen and Sebastian Haller miss out with thigh and ankle injuries respectively.

On the other side of the fixture, PSG are having a season like usual. Top of Ligue 1 by 11 points, three 4-1 victories in a row, as well as a final appearance in the Coupe de France, means that Luis Enrique looks to be guiding the Paris-based team to a domestic treble, and the quadruple may still be on, especially if PSG can overturn their German opponents.

Despite an initial first leg defeat to Barcelona in the quarter-finals, a 4-1 victory in the Spanish city granted the team a spot in the semi-finals, thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and a brace from Kylian Mbappehowever critics may put their emphatic victory down to a conspicuous Ronald Araujo red card early in the game, which meant PSG were playing with an extra man for the majority of the tie.

Either way, there will still be a strong squad on the plane to Germany on Wednesday. Gianluigi Donnarumma will be the man in between the sticks, with Marquinhos and Lucas Hernandez forming the defensive wall. Fabian Ruiz and wonderkid Warren Zaire-Emery will look to exploit gaps in the midfield, whilst Manuel Ugarte, Marcos Asensio and Lee Kang-In remain options off the bench.

Of course, "Les Parisiens" attacking options will be feared by the BVB supporters. This competition might be the last time PSG can win the Champions League with Kylian Mbappe, as rumours about the elite strikers' move to Real Madrid heat up. However, with Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos, who scored a last minute equaliser against Le Havre on Saturday, Enrique will feel he has the firepower to take PSG to their first ever Champions League trophy.

With just Presnel Kimpembe and Sergio Rico missing due to injury, PSG and Dortmund are set to clash on Wednesday with their best lineups possible, making for what promises to be an intense and entertaining match-up.

This game kicks off at 8pm BST on Wednesday 1st May, at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.
