The third round of the 2022 US Open got underway with action from the top half of the men's draw.

Top seed Daniil Medvedev and 23rd seed Nick Kyrgios were among the eight winners and have booked a blockbuster fourth-round clash.

Medvedev, Kyrgios set last 16 showdown

Top-ranked Medvedev had little trouble with Chinese qualifier Yibing Wu, recording his tenth straight victory at Flushing Meadows by a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 scoreline.

When asked about facing Kyrgios, who owns a 3-1 lifetime record against the Russian, he said "we've played great matches.

"I think all have been quite tight on the scoreboard. It's 3-1 to him, but I will try to do better this time and it will be a great match to watch."

Kyrgios closed out play on Louis Armstrong Stadium with a convincing 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 victory over American J.J. Wolf.

The Aussie saved all seven break points he faced as he attempts to reach the quarterfinals in New York for the first time.

"It was a very tough match for me", he said. "I knew J.J. is a home crowd favorite, I knew I had to be on my guns today and serve well. I'm just really happy to move forward."

Ruud, Carreno Busta among other winners

Two-time semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta reached the fourth round with a 6-1, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 victory over 18th seed Alex de Minaur.

The 12th-seeded Spaniard next faces 27th seed Karen Khachanov, who moved on when Jack Draper was forced to retire with the score 6-3, 4-6, 6-5 in favor of the Russian.

The Norwegian, finalist at the French Open next takes on Corentin Moutet as the French lucky loser battled past Pedro Cachin 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
