Australian tennis legend Pat Cash talked to EuroSport about Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray’s reunification. The two split just under a year after Murray’s historic Wimbledon triumph. After that, Murray went to Amelie Mauresmo as his coach along with Jamie Delgado as his assistant. Delgado stayed alongside Murray after he split with Mauresmo and was hoping to become the Brit’s full-time head coach, but Murray chose to reunite with Lendl, the man whom he won two Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal under.

Cash Talks to EuroSport on the Reunification

Ivan is a very strong character, and so is Andy. I think Ivan was confident on the fact that he would be listened to. I think that would be the number 1 thing. I'm happy to work with you Andy, but what's the point unless you don't listen to me. 'I'm a bit surprised actually. I didn't know if Andy (Murray) really needed Ivan (Lendl), but clearly he feels like he has to. There are certain areas he wants to improve. I think it's a great idea that he's (Murray) getting out there and trying to become a better player. If Ivan (Lendl) can help him then that's the way he wants to go,” concluded Cash.

Titles Missing in the Partnership

Lendl now looks to get Murray back into Grand Slam-winning ways. Murray is missing a couple of Grand Slams and hopes to win them under the tutelage of the Czech. The Australian Open, the French Open, and a title at the ATP World Tour Finals are the only things outside of the Masters titles the world number two hasn’t won.

Murray did perform on clay better under the tutelage of Mauresmo so it remains to be seen how he’ll do under Lendl, but the only thing that’s stopped Murray from winning multiple Australian Open titles is Novak Djokovic.
