Andreas Seppi was the first seed to exit Ricoh Open on day two as round one matches continued, while home favourite Igor Sijsling defeated Inigo Cervantes in two straightforward sets 6-4, 6-0, and fellow Dutchmen Robin Haase was knocked out by Gilles Muller. Russian youngster Daniil Medvedev caused an upset by defeating Horacio Zeballos in straight sets.

Sijsling through in home tournament

Igor Sijsling opened up proceedings for day two on centre court with a 6-4 6-0 win over Spaniard Inigo Cervantes. The dutch started off by breaking the Spaniard to love. Although there were no breaks of serve, Cervantes did have to save a break point at advantage in the eighth game. From then on in the world number 118 held serve and closed out the set. With momentum fully with the Dutch, he began the second set same as the first breaking, Cervantes, to love. The Dutch then broke in the third and fifth game to seal the bagel. 

Mannarino sends sixth seed packing

In the very first game, Andreas Seppi saved three break points, but couldn't save a fourth as Adrian Mannarino broke. The fourth game was the Italian's chance to get back into the match having had two break points saved. Following this, both players continued to serve and Mannarino served the set out to love. In the first three games, five break points went on offer with no player able to take advantage. However, in the eighth game, the Frenchman broke and ultimately sealed Seppi's fate in the tournament. On the Italian's serve, Mannarino had two match points saved before going on to serve it out on his own serve. The Italian awaits his 300th ATP win.

Medvedev stuns Zeballos

Daniil Medvedev, who came through qualification set up a second round tie with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino after defeating Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-1. The Russian got off to the perfect start by breaking the world number 92 in the opening game and then going on to consolidate. The following game saw the Russian go up a double break and hold. Zeballos did get one of the breaks back in the seventh game, but the 20-year-old held from then on in to take the first set. The second was more one sided with Medvedev racing away to a 5-0 lead breaking the Argentine in the second and fourth games. Zeballos did get a game on the board to avoid the bagel, but ultimately Medvedev sealed the match by serving it out to love. 

Dutch favourite knocked out

Seventh seed Gilles Muller  24 aces in the match against Netherlands number one, Robin Haase. In the match, there was only one break of serve coming in the second set. The opening set was settled via a tiebreak with Muller winning 9-7. The 33-year-old from Luxembourg broke at 30-40 and went on to hold serve for a two-set victory. The world number 44 fired 24 aces in the match.

Vasek Pospisil got the first break of the set to go 2-4 up, but the Canadian couldn't hold that lead and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez who saved two set points in the eighth game, broke back and held serve to level. The set then went to a tiebreak, which was then won by Garcia-Lopez on his second match point and having to save one of his own. The 32-year-old dominated the second set by breaking twice and going on to serve it out for victory.

Japanese Tatsuma Ito set up a clash with fifth seed Sam Querrey by defeating Ivan Dodig 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. The world number 105 broke once in a tight set to take the opener, while in the second, Dodig broke in the second and seventh game to level. The third set was dominated by the 28-year-old as he bageled the Croatian. 

Dudi Sela scraped by in three sets against qualifier Denis Novikov to set up a clash against number one seed David Ferrer. The Israeli got the breakthrough in the seventh game before handing the break back to the American, however, Sela broke in the 12th game to seal the first set and avoid the tiebreaker. The second was a carbon copy of the first set with back-to-back breaks coming in the seventh and eighth games, but this time, the set was decided in the tiebreaker, with the American sealing it 6-8 following two previous missed opportunities on set points. The third was also decided on the tiebreak, following breaks in the fifth and eighth games. At 6-6, Sela got the mini break and sealed victory at the first time of asking.
