Australian Davis Cup captain Wally Masur believes Aussie youngster Nick Kyrgios has a target on his back. Masur compared some of the behaviors of Kyrgios to those of the world’s top two players, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.

Masur pointed out that Murray has often been seen shouting at himself and at his player’s box but has never been fined in recent memory. Meanwhile, Djokovic has had some problems which Masur has brought to the attention of the public.

Masur Speaks to Perth Now

There are a lot of rules in place … I’m always curious though in tennis, they’re fairly inconsistent,” Masur said. “Nick at the moment certainly has a target on his back, and he transgressed and rightfully so he was fined.I watched Andy Murray the other night and there were a few audible obscenities there and I haven’t heard too much about that so there’s a level of inconsistency."

You might remember Novak Djokovic actually pushed an umpire’s arm away during the Rome tournament and there was no sanction for that so I think obviously the major players drive the game.“As long as there’s consistency across the board, all good.”

Kyrgios’ Recent Incidents

At the French Open, the Aussie was slammed with the tournament's largest fine after an audible obscenity violation. Just last year, he was slammed with a fine after his sledge of Stan Wawrinka. The swing of Asian tournaments was not kind to the young Aussie either. He was hit with a fine for hitting a ball at the roof in Tokyo and was fined in Shanghai as well.
