The field at the Barcelona Banco Sabadell Open has just gotten even tougher. After the likes of Richard Gasquet, David Ferrer, and Rafael Nadal, two-time defending champion Kei Nishikori has joined the field as well along with three other Spaniards. Two-time champion in 2016 Roberto Bautista Agut, Feliciano Lopez, and Pablo Carreno Busta.

Top Players Continue To Join

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Nishikori are the fourth and fifth top ten player confirmed to enter the Barcelona Open. Eight-time champion Nadal, four-time runner-up Ferrer, and Tsonga’s countryman Gasquet, are the other top ten players in the field.

Spaniards Dominate The Entry List

The Barcelona Open is one of the first ATP 500 events of the clay season and draws plenty of home support for the plethora of Spanish players. 2010 champion Fernando Verdasco and 2004 champion Tommy Robredo are the other two remaining champions outside of Nadal and Nishikori. Former runner-ups Pablo Andujar, Santiago Giraldo, and Nicolás Almagro are in the field.

Other top Spaniards in the field are Feliciano Lopez and Roberto Bautista Agut. The other remaining Spaniards in the field who haven’t been named are: Iñigo Cervantes, Marcel Granollers, and Albert Ramos-Viñolas.

Two Outside The Top Ten Look To Make Breakthrough

Another two-time champion of 2016, Dominic Thiem is looking to continue his stellar run of form on the European clay. The Austrian has won four of his five titles on the clay and is looking to breakthrough into the top ten soon. Meanwhile Marin Cilic, former US Open champion, is looking to shrug off a slow start to the year when the season transitions to the clay, The Barcelona Open will be played from April 16-24.
