The Swiss Indoors in Basel is one of the most popular tournaments during the indoor swing. This year, the tournament boasts one of its most stacked fields in its history. The field is led by reigning nine-time finalist and hometown boy Roger Federer. The Swiss number one heads into his home tournament as the defending champion for the first time since 2011.

An insane field

Federer will be joined by fellow Big Four rival, Rafael Nadal, countryman Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Richard Gasquet, and Grigor Dimitrov. Nadal, who usually struggles on the much faster indoor hard courts, is hoping to reverse his fortunes, especially after a third round exit at the US Open to Fabio Fognini. Wawrinka, who lost to Federer in the US Open semifinals, is looking to win his first title in his home tournament.

Nishikori and David Goffin are two recent finalists that are in the field. Raonic, whose injuries had hampered what looked to be another fantastic season, will be looking to use his powerful serve to fire his way to a potential finals appearance. Wimbledon semifinalist Gasquet will be looking for a deep run to try and strengthen his shot at a potential spot in the ATP World Tour Finals. Dimitrov, like Nadal, is looking for some sort of silver lining to his season after falling severely short of expectations after a stellar season last year.

But wait… there’s more

US Open semifinalist Marin Cilic will be in the field as well. He is currently nursing an ankle injury so he is currently resting up to make sure he is healthy for the upcoming Asian-Indoor swing. Fellow big servers Ivo Karlovic, John Isner, and Kevin Anderson join the likes of Raonic and Cilic in this field. Federer’s Australian Open conqueror, Andreas Seppi, is on the entry list as well.

American number two Jack Sock is one of two players from the States who are in the draw. Federer’s US Open third round opponent, Philipp Kohlschreiber, as well as Ernests Gulbis and Viktor Troicki, round out what could be one of the most highly anticipated ATP 500 events this calendar year.
