Court One of Wimbledon was the scene of the first meeting between Stan Wawrinka and Victor Estrella Burgos; the French Open champion and the Dominican hero played a very close match that at the end was for the Swiss native.

In the first set, the two players suffer with their serves and the match rhythm was very slow in result of the short point. At 4/3, the Laussanne born Swiss found his first break chances and with the heart on his sleeve, Estrella Burgos saved the two points but he did not have the defending ability against Wawrinka´s forehand and dropped the game. With this, the world number four had the chance to close out the set on his serve and with a net point he took the opener 6/3 against the Dominican.

The story didn´t change in the second set as short points and unforced errors from the Swiss were, the 34-year-old Latin American tried to attack but Wawrinka served his wat out of trouble. Like in the first set, the two-time Grand Slam champion was pushed harder in the final part of the set. At 4/4, he took the only chance he had on the Estrella serve to get the break. In the next game, Wawrinka held without dropping a single point to take the two set lead 6/3 6/4.

In the final set, both players had some problems with their serves but nothing really serious. At 5/4, Estrella Burgos found himself with the lead at 30/15 but the grass "went against" him as he slipped and lost the chance to create his first break point opportunities as the Swiss held. At the end of the match, the French Open champion used his powerful groundstrokes well but to everyone's surprise, the Dominican found his first break point chances. Wawrinka saved the break points and closed out the match with a 6/3, 6/4, 7/5 straight sets victory.

The world number four didn´t play his best match but he showed his resolve on the important points; meanwhile Estrella Burgos never found the way to attack with the return.

The Dominican will add 45 points to his ranking and with the second round appearance (best ever) he wrote another chapter to his amazing story. Wawrinka will face the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the third round.
