According to reports, Mexican National Team and PSV Eindhoven midfielder Andres Guardado is flattered by offers to join MLS, most heavily coming from new franchise Atlanta United FC. The two sides have been linked for quite some time now, with the 30-year-old citing the tremendous growth of the league as a reason to consider the move. In addition, it seems like PSV are expecting Guardado to depart, holding him out of participation in the upcoming Olympics to perhaps keep him fit for a transfer.

The talented midfielder will reportedly be able to find more money in MLS as well, as the current offer stands at $3 million per year for a 3-year deal. This would make him one of the highest-paid players in the league.

An all-around star?

This would be a dream signing for the expansion club Atlanta United as Guardado is still an impact player and far from the end of his career. He racked up 10 assists in all competitions for PSV this past season and was regarded as one of the top all-around midfielders in the Eredivisie. He is also extremely versatile, with the ability to play left back, defensive and attacking midfielder, and even winger. For Mexico, he has 129 caps all-time and has netted 24 goals. In the nation’s 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup victory, he won the Golden Ball award as the tournament’s most outstanding player.

While Atlanta United will take marquee names wherever they can, Guardado would be especially helpful due to his ability to do many things well. His passing ability allows him to pull the strings in the attack, his experience allows him to take control of a side, and his work rate makes him a constant threat at all times. This addition would ease some of the difficulties a new club must face and maybe even attract other big names to the organization.
