Great flag tifo by AO Chicago, and we are almost underway here at Soldier Field.

Both teams are on the field, time for anthems! (Hopefully the correct ones)

The scene is set here at Soldier Field. Obviously a pro-USA crowd, but good amount of Costa Ricans here as well!

In the preparation for this match, there has been a lot of talk about what the USMNT must do differently to get all three points. Those discussions have centered around one man, and whether or not he should be in the starting XI: Darlington Nagbe. The Portland Timbers midfielder has made quite an impression in his adopted country and debuted for the USMNT last year after becoming a citizen. He willed the Timbers to their maiden MLS Cup last year, and offers thrust and an eye for a killer pass which no one else in the team has. However, Klinsmann has kept his cards close to his chest, and we still don't know whether Nagbe will be involved from the off.

Moments later, Dempsey again went close, this time from a free kick about 25 yards away from goal. His strike was terrific, but Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina was ready for it and made a brilliant save to keep the US off the scoreboard. In an effort to get his side back in the game, USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann introduced midfield maestro Darlington Nagbe and Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Christian Pulisic from the bench, but neither was able to see much of the ball. From there on out, the hosts were unable to have a clear sight of goal.

After the break, the United States came out with no sense of urgency. Though they were 2-0 down, they didn't press high up the pitch, and there were no changes forthcoming from the technical area. It took nearly a quarter of an hour for them to make a second foray into the attacking third and fashion the second half's first clear-cut chance. A corner kick was whipped into the area by Michael Bradley, where Clint Dempsey rose highest and nodded the ball towards goal. However, his contested header was cleared off the line, keeping Colombia's 2-0 lead intact.

The man who spent his season on loan with Sunderland had turned away as Farid Diaz whipped in a cross, and the ball struck the right back's hand as it went past. The referee was certain it was a penalty. Rodriguez strode to the spot and confidently rifled the ball into the back of the net moments before the interval, giving his side exactly the confidence boost they needed.

In that match, the Americans did themselves no favors. The opening goal was conceded less than 10 minutes into the match when Geoff Cameron lost Zapata on a corner. The Colombian made no mistake and slammed a volley into the back of the net. The hosts soon found themselves dominating the possession, but couldn't break down the Colombian defense. Though Clint Dempsey went close with an effort from distance, the hosts still trailed when Deandre Yedlin was penalized for a handball in the box.

The United States got itself into this far less than ideal position by falling 2-0 to Colombia in the tournament's opening match. The Americans went behind thanks to an early Cristian Zapata goal, and James Rodriguez converted a penalty just before halftime to give Los Cafeteros the victory. It was a poor performance from the United States, and they know that they must be better this evening.

Meanwhile, the host nation can be eliminated this evening with a loss and victory by Colombia over Paraguay in the match at the Rose Bowl later tonight. If those two results came to pass, Colombia would top Group A with six points, Costa Rica would be second with four, Paraguay would be third with one and the United States would be bottom with none. Most expect the Americans to manage a victory in front of a partisan crowd, but it will not be easy, especially given the raised stakes.

Though this match is important for Costa Rica, it isn't as important as it is for the hosts, because they could be eliminated this evening while the 2014 World Cup Quarterfinalists can be neither eliminated nor secure passage to the next round.

Costa Rica enter this match feeling slightly better than the United States do. Although Los Ticos were often frustrated during their 0-0 draw with Paraguay on Saturday, they took a point out of a game where a result was imperative. Given the other results which have happened thus far, five points would certainly be enough for them to move on, and four might well be enough. They look far likelier to get a result from tonight's match than from their final group match against Colombia, the third-ranked side in the world. Though the FIFA Rankings are skewed and often inaccurate, Colombia are a hugely talented side and one of the favorites to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.

Tonight's match is genuinely pivotal for both teams. The United States could be eliminated from the tournament with a loss and a victory for Colombia in the late game tonight, while Costa Rica know that three points would put them in a fantastic position to move on to the knockout stage.
