The New England Revolution will be heading to Stade Saputo on Saturday to take on the Montreal Impact in an Eastern Conference showdown.

Both clubs as of late have been in good form. Since Didier Drogba has been inserted into the starting lineup, the Impact have not lost in three matches. They beat the Chicago Fire 4-3 at home, where the former Ivory Coast international scored a hat-trick in his first Major League Soccer (MLS) start.

Then Montreal hit the road for a West Coast trip. They faced the lethal Los Angeles Galaxy offense followed by a showdown with the surging San Jose Earthquakes. The club left both games with hard earned draws, and even keeping the Galaxy’s six-headed offensive monster off the scoreboard.

Now the Canadians are heading back home to take on a Revolution team that has not lost a game since the 11th of July. That hot streak has put the Revs in first place of the Eastern Conference with 46 points and fourth in the Supporters’ Shield race.

Regardless, of Montreal’s three games unbeaten streak, the team is still in danger of falling out of the playoff race. The Impact have 33 points and are currently holding on to the final playoff spot. Montreal will have seven games left in the regular season after this match; with so many matches left before the 2015 MLS campaign ends, they might dramatically improve their position in the standings, or conversely fall apart.

A victory on Saturday will close the gap between them and Canadian rivals Toronto FC by just a point. However, if Montreal loses the match, there is a chance they might drop to ninth place in the East. Orlando City SC are just one point away from them, New York City FC are two points away from overlapping the Impact, and the Philadelphia Union are just a victory away.

The Impact will have a tough task of defeating the Revs on Saturday since this offense has scored 17 goals in their eight-game win streak. Thus Montreal’s defense and goalkeeper Evan Busch will have to be on their toes when they face the fast-paced and creative offense of New England.

The Revs are led by Charlie Davies and Juan Agudelo, who have combined for 15 of New England’s 43 goals.  Lee Nguyen, Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe have assisted on 20 between them.

The Revolution are ranked number six in the MLS for assists with 46. The Impact will have to replicate what the New York Red Bulls defense did to New England on July 11th as they defeated them 4 -1 at Red Bull Arena.

However, Montreal will also have to worry about the stingy defense that U.S. international Jermaine Jones and Revs goalie Bobby Shuttleworth command. Since their last lost against the Red Bulls, the unit has only given up five goals. The Impacts offense does has a new bounce with Drogba, but with Justin Mapp being ruled out of the game due to a toe contusion, that just limits the vision of their offense.

Not to mention Mapp is just one of the four key injuries that will not be in action on Saturday. The other missing players: Patrice Bernier, Kenny Cooper and Cameron Porter. However, Mapp's absence from the match will force Drogba to come out of his comfort zone and find the ball away from the penalty box. As a result, that will give New England time to reorganize and shut down the legendary striker.

Another factor going against the Impact is that the Revs are also searching for three points. The Red Bulls, DC United and the Columbus Crew SC are less than two points away from the first place Revs. New England only has four games left in the season after this match, which means they cannot afford to let victories slip by.

Prediction: Montreal 1-4 New England

The Revs desire to hold on to first place and potentially capture the Supporters’ Shield will be their motivation on Saturday. Their offense will run wild and their defense will suffocate the Impacts attack.
