After last night’s thrilling 2-1 come from behind win for the Seattle Sounders against Honduran club CD Olimpia in CONCACAF Champions League action, the CONCACAF governing body needs to take a look at the videotape. There were a lot of things that happened Wednesday night in Seattle and most were bad.

There were a lot of yellow cards handed out last night, seven to be exact. Five cards for Olimpia and two cards for the Sounders. That being said, there probably should have been even more, including one or maybe even two red cards.

First things first, the match for most of the night had the look of possibly turning dirty at some point and it finally did in stoppage time. Sounder at Heart posted a video taken from behind the goal during Brad Evans penalty. It doesn’t catch all the time wasting done by Olimpia’s goalkeeper or field players. What needs to be looked at is what happened after the penalty. Take a look at the video here that way you can see what yours truly is talking about.

Now that you have seen the video, here are a few takeaways. Brad Evans should not have done what he did when he taunted the ‘keeper, but it can be understandable as it was close to boiling over a few times prior to him taking the penalty. After taunting the ‘keeper, Evans has the ball kicked at him and he throws his hands into the air. Now Evans and the ‘keeper come face to face.  With both of Evans’ arms raised above his head, Fabio de Souza (4) of Olimpia precedes to take two, possible three, punches at Brad’s ribs.

Here is what Evans had to say after the match regarding the melee, "So in the beginning I put the ball down and the keeper is standing there for a good three minutes, and at that point it becomes the referee's responsibility to push the keeper back on his line so I can take the penalty kick. The referee doesn't say anything; doesn't push the goalkeeper back. More guys come crowd around. I put the ball down [and] he touches the ball once so I re-touch the ball. He comes back, I push him and that's when a melee starts. He's talking trash, so I score a PK [in the] 97thminute he's going to hear back. I think we all know the outcome from there."

Other players from both teams try to break up the scrum. As you keep watching, you will see an Olimpia player with a CONCACAF bib on enter the picture. That means a “bench player” has now entered the field as well as the head coach of Olimpia, Hector Vargas. It also appears that Vargas take a cheap shot at Lamar Neagle and you can clearly see that Neagle is not happy about this as he is being pulled away from the area.

First off, coaches and bench players are not allowed to enter the field. That right there should be a fine of some sort. Secondly, Souza needs to be suspended a minimum of one game for his punches to Evans ribs. Lastly, Vargas needs to be suspended for the rest of the CCL for his actions. That is no way for a coach to act and national team coaches have been fired for doing similar things.

A lot of you out there will say the time wasting is the way Central American teams play. It is true, but it makes the game ugly and should be punished appropriately. The part of the game that is bothersome, is what happened after the penalty.

The actions displayed by the Olimpia players after the penalty was, and is, appalling and CONCACAF should do something about it. Sadly, nothing will probably be done.
