Brazil gets their eight straight group stage victory, all via shutout, as Andressa Alves' first half goal was enough as they hang on to the 1-0 victory and advance to the knockout rounds of the competition.

In the 8th minute, Natalia Pablos of Spain got on the end of a long ball over the top and got in behind Brazil's defense. However, her finish was extremely poor and rolled harmlessly wide of the far post. Then Brazil immediately attacked down the left through Marta but the Brazilian superstar's cross fell straight into the hands of Ainhoa Tirapu. A teasing cross was sent into Brazil's box and Rafaella nearly sent the ball into the back of her own net, 12 minutes into the match. Match has really died down after the frantic start. No one wants to be the first one to give away the ball and let the opposition go down the other end.

Spain had a counter in the 28th minute, but Fabiana was spectacular down the left defending one versus one and won the ball back for her country thwarted away any possible danger. Vero had the ball just on the edge of the 18 yard box, in the 34th minute, and made a nifty move to free herself up. Her pass, unfortunately, was hit just a bit weak and Brazil were able to clear the ball away. Brazil had a couple of opportunities off of a corner to score but were not able to convert.

They did break the deadlock a minute before the halftime interval after Andressa Alves found the back of the net through a brilliant individual display. Her initial chip over the Spanish goal keeper was cleared off the line by Celia Jiménez. Unfortunately, the clearance was not great and fell straight into the path of Alves who calmly placed the ball into the far corner of the goal giving Brazil that 1-0 lead heading into the break.

A dangerous free kick from Brazil looked to have hit the hand of a Spanish player inside the box, but there was nothing given from the ref and Spain were eventually able to clear the ball out for a throw. This second half has been mainly Brazil in attack, showing their dominance through Marta in the middle of the pitch. Ten minutes into the second half and the leaders of this match worked the ball excellently from the right side of the pitch to the left. Their move deserved a goal and Alves nearly provided it, her effort though hit the outside of the net, just missing the top left corner.

Vero played a superb ball out towards the right and Marta Corredera got on the end of it. The cross in the end was not good enough and Brazil's defending inside the box prevented any danger whatsoever but this was better from Spain. Down the other end in the 67th mintue saw Brazil's Marta cut a pass back towards Andressa and her effort from outside of the box forced a fantastic save from Tirapu to keep Spain just down by one.

Priscilla Borja kept the ball in play down the right side as she whipped in a cross from the byline back towards the middle of the box. Natalia Pablos was making a run onto the ball but she could not quite control it and was taken off moments later. Fabiana delivered a cross towards the far post and Marta kept the ball alive and sent a ball back to the middle of the area where Formiga was waiting right near the six yard box but could not get a good finish on the cross, with about ten minutes left to go.

The Spanish playmaker, Vero, was clean through on goal as she timed her run perfectly. Unfortunately, she completely overcomplicated things and let the ball run away from her feet and Brazil managed to hold on to the lead up until that point, with four minutes left to go in this match. Vero had a shot that was deflected on its way through and Irene Hernandez nearly found the back of the net but then
