Nigeria and Sweden opened the so called 'group of death' at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with a classic.

The action started in the 20th minute, when Nigeria's Desire Oparanozie scored an own goal off a Therese Sjogran crossing attempt. That gave the favorites an early 1-0 lead. They would score another goal just eleven minutes later when Nilla Fischer scored off a second chance opportunity after a failed clearing attempt by the NIgerian goalkeeper. That gave the Swedes a 2-0 advantage.

Nigeria had a scoring chance of their own when Asisat Oshoala steered a shot just wide of the net. Nigeria had another chance just before halftime when Oparanzoie had a break, but the play was broken up by a slide tackle by Fischer, which kept the score 2-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Nigeria finally got on the board, thanks to a Ngozi Okobi goal in the 50th minute that cut the lead to 2-1. Oshaola then scored a goal of her own just three minutes later to tie the game at twos.

Sweden would retake the lead, however, as Linda Sembrant deflected a shot in from Lina Nilsson to give Sweden a 3-2 lead. The score would remain the same thanks to a goal saving slide-tackle by Emma Berglund in the 69th minute.

Francisca Ordega would tie the game once again off a prefectly placed pass from Okobi with just minutes left to play to stun Sweden and their supporters, who expected the game to be a blowout.

Both teams are back in action on Friday as Sweden faces the United States in a battle of the favorites in the group. Nigeria faces Australia on Friday afternoon.
