Columbus Crew SC fans can smile, as the club and their star central forward Federico Higuain has agreed on a new designated player contract. According to the club, and MLS policy, details regarding this signing were not released. This signing is the impact the club will need in order for continuous success heading into the season. 

During the season, Columbus Crew announced they had decided to acquire the option on his current contract for this upcoming season. 

Higuain has lead the team in both goals (27 goals) and assists (23 assists). Higuain was also named the Barbasol Most Valuable Player, in both his two full seasons in Columbus. The Argentine became the third ever designated player in club history. He originally signed onto the club midway through the 2012 campaign, but stalled upon his arrival to the States as passport and international records were not arrived on time. Higuain is ranked 5 in the leauge of goals scored; Also one of eight players to hit double digits in both the 2013, 2014 season. 

This past season, Higuain tied for the club leader in goals (11) and assists (7), while leading the team in shots (73) and shots on goal (25). He creeated a total of 88 chances, and was ranked 4th overall in the league during the 2014 season.
