The sixth installment of the 2014 season for CASCADIA Cup is set to take place this weekend as the Portland Timbers will host the Seattle Sounders on Sunday afternoon.

The Sounders gained three critical points in the CASCADIA Cup standings the last time they played the Timbers in Seattle in July. If the Timbers want to even think about bringing the CASCADIA Cup back to Portland they will need a win this Sunday or else they will be all but mathematically eliminated from the Cup. Seattle only has two CASCADIA matches left: one against the Timbers and one against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Current CASCADIA Cup Standings-

Place Team Points
1st Vancouver Whitecaps FC 7pts
2nd Seattle Sounders FC 5pts
3rd Portland Timbers FC 1pt

We will take a look back at the first five 2014 CASCADIA matches-

Match Teams Score
#1 Portland - Seattle 4-4
#2 Vancouver - Seattle 2-2
#3 Portland - Vancouver 3-4
#4 Vancouver - Seattle 1-Nil
#5 Seattle - Portland 2-Nil

This match will be the Sounders fifth match in fifteen days between the US Open Cup and regular season MLS play.

The Sounders played on Wednesday night and had one of their best looking performances since coming off the World Cup break where the team struggled losing a ten point lead at the top of the table.

One player to look will be US Men’s National Team Captain Clint Dempsey who scored a hat trick last time he played in Providence Park. He also scored against the Timbers in Seattle and has four goals against them this season.

Another player to keep an eye on is Obafemi Martins who did play on Wednesday after coming off of his red card suspension.

The Timbers also played on Wednesday in a CONCACAF Champions League match against Alpha United and won the match easily 4-1; it’ll be interesting to see how travelling to South America and back for the midweek match affects their play.

For Portland you really need to keep your eyes on Maximiliano Urruti who put one in when these two clubs met back in April.

Following the match on Sunday the Sounders will only have one CASCADIA Cup match left against Vancouver while the Timbers and Whitecaps will meet two more times.
