It appears that New York City FC and Frank Lampard have made a decision as to where the former England captain will play to stay fit for the upcoming Major League Soccer season. Reports indicate that Lampard will join NYCFC partner club Manchester City of the English Premier League on a six-month contract. One report states that Lampard rejected the chance to join future teammate David Villa on loan with Melbourne City FC of the Australia A-League in favor of Manuel Pellegrini's side.

The news comes as a shock to his many fans with Chelsea who never thought they would see one of their legends in the kit of another club, let alone one of their rivals. The two clubs face off in the English Premier League on Sunday, September 21st at the Etihad Stadium. Depending on the length of his stay, he could be around for the return trip to Stamford Bridge on January 31st, 2015.

At this time, Manchester City is in the United States taking part in the International Champions Cup with at least one match to go. They take on Greek side Olympiacos in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A win and any loss by Liverpool to AC Milan will qualify City for the Final on Monday in Miami.

There is no timetable for when Lampard will join the club in training but the hopes are that he will be with City but the time they face Arsenal in the FA Community Shield on August 10th. The transfer is a great move for City as they look to fill their required quota of homegrown players.

The deal is also great for Lampard who has stated his desire to keep up his fitness ahead of the new Major League Soccer season. He will also remain in England meaning that he'll likely get more attention from England National Team manager Roy Hodgson as the Three Lions prepare for their Euro 2016 qualifying matches. Considering Lampard has not officially announced his international retirement, this could be his last chance to make an impact at the international level.
