This week, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series moves to Michigan International Speedway for the Pure Michigan 400. The last time the series was at the track was earlier this season, when Kurt Busch won the race.

The track is known among fans as the track where Dale Earnhardt Jr snapped his three year win streak back in 2012 when he won the June race.

When the cars roll off to qualify on Friday, getting a good position is key, as the farthest a winner has come from to win is 32nd, done by Mark Martin in the spring of 2009. While it is possible to win from that far back, only 7.6% of the races at Michigan have been won by someone who started outside the top 20.

Fuel Mileage has been a major issue the last couple of weeks, as both of the last two races have ultimately been decided by who did not ran out of gas at the end.

The NASCAR Standings coming into the race have Jimmie Johnson leading the points, while Kyle Busch is second, but not locked into the chase. Busch is in 30th position in the points, meaning that if he has a bad run or two and falls out of the top 30, he will not make the chase, despite having four wins.

Brad Keselowski is one driver to watch, as he has 17 Sprint Cup series wins at 12 different tracks, but he has never won a Sprint Cup race at Michigan, which is his home track. If he wins, he would become the ninth active driver to win a race in his home state, joining Kyle Busch (Nevada), Jeff Gordon (California), Jimmie Johnson (California), Kevin Harvick (California), Aric Almirola (Florida), Ryan Newman (Indiana), Tony Stewart (Indiana) and Denny Hamlin (Virginia).

There are only four more races untill the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins. Stay with VAVEL USA for all the coverage of the season.
