The Winnipeg Jets were able to reach an agreement with Michael Frolik and did not have to have an arbitration case on July 31st with the 26-year old Czech forward. The new deal is worth $3.3 Million and is for one season. He will be eligible to be re-signed to an extension on January 1, 2015.

Frolik had one the best seasons in his NHL career last season with 15 goals and 27 assists in 81 games for the Jets. This was his highest point total since playing for the Florida Panthers where he scored 45 points in 79 games in 2008-2009 and 43 points in 82 games in 2009-2010. He was drafted in 2006 by Florida 10th overall in the NHL Entry Draft and played three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks in more of a defens

Jets management would possibly like to keep Frolik in Winnipeg long-term. Frolik's agent stated "Our sole objective is a long-term deal with Winnipeg. Michael would love to sign a long-term contract there." He averaged 16:40 in ice time last season for the Jets and was one of their most dependable players. He is receiving a raise of a $1 Million from last season as his last contract included a cap hit of $2.3 Million per season.

Analysts say that the price tag might be a bit high, but the raise shows the that the Jets are giving him the option to earn it with more production and responsibility time on the ice. If Frolik follows through and has another good season, things should be interesting for future years in Winnipeg. Depending on those factors, the two big questions are, for how long and at what price? The first few months of his season will be key for that answer for sure.
