There’s little doubt that the New Jersey Devils are happy about their latest win against the Washington Capitals. The two points earned maintain them alive in the playoff race but unfortunately for them, it came with a price to pay.

Both Patrik Elias and Adam Henrique exited the game with injuries and there’s no word about their status yet. It didn’t matter as the Devils managed to top the Caps with a late goal from Ryan Carter but it will surely hurt their chances as the season is quickly approaching its end.

Elias left the game with 8:13 left in the first period after receiving a hit from rookie forward Tom Wilson while Henrique took his final shift with 4:17 left in the second period.

Both players have been instrumental to the team’s success this year. Elias has 51 points in 61 games – including 18 in his last 17 contests – and Henrique has 43 points in 76 games. The latter is also one of the top scorers of the team with 25 goals.

Head coach Peter DeBoer hasn’t mentioned if both will be ready to play today against the Carolina Hurricanes but it’s likely they will be out for a while. If that’s the case, then the Devils’ chances to appear in the postseason will take a serious hit.
