Two teams who had came in from last season narrowly missing the playoffs began the 2015 campaign with high hopes. Both squads have a talented defense with big names all around it. Very agressive on the defensive side of the ball. The two sack leaders from last season in JJ Watt and Justin Houston would try to break the record again.

The Chiefs got the ball first with the Texans electing to go on defense first. The Chiefs made some plays but were forced to punt on their first posession. On the first play for the Texans, Brian Hoyer threw an interception to Marcus Peters. The Chiefs took advantage of this with Alex Smith throwing his first of three touchdown passes, the first one to tight end Travis kelce to put the Chiefs up early.

The Texans didn't make any noise on the next series, and the Chiefs punished them, with Smith throwing a second touchdown to Kelce, who was left wide open for a 42 yard trot into the endzone.

The Texans finally responded with Hoyer throwing a touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins to narrow the gap, but the 33 yard extra point was missed by Randy Bullock. The first miss of an extra point.

The Chiefs would pour it on in the second quarter with two field goals from Cairo Santos to add an extra posession to the gap for the Chiefs. Another Brian Hoyer fumble, this forced by Justin Houston, would result in a touchdown for the Chiefs. Alex Smith would find Jamal Charles in the flat and he would do the rest.

Before the half, the Texans would march down the field one more time and put a field goal on the board and trail 27-9 at the half. The Texans made good adjustments on the defensive side of the ball as the Chiefs would not score any more points.

Brian Hoyer would finish the game 18-34 for 236 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He would be replaced late in the fourth quarter by Ryan Mallet who caught fire the moment he was put in the game. Mallet would drive the Texans down the field with his pal DeAndre Hopkins to score a touchdown and a two point coversion. Mallet would then lead the Texans down the field again for a field goal.

The following onside kick was recovered by the Chiefs, who sat on the ball for the final minute and took the game 27-20. Alex Smith finished the game 22-33 for 243 and 3 touchdowns. Ryan mallet finished 8-13 in relief of Hoyer throwing for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Travis Kelce finished the game for the Chiefs with 6 catches, 106 yards and two touchdowns to lead the game. JJ Watt had two sacks, while the entire Chiefs defense combined for 5.
