Just two days after having surgery to repair his broken jaw, Jets quarterback Geno Smith found himself in hot water with Jets head coach Todd Bowles. He was playing catch which went against doctors orders of no physical activity, which shows a sign of poor decision making. As silly as that may sound he should not be putting himself in harms way just after having a surgery, this news does not look good for Geno.

Not long after being sucker punched by former teammate IK  Enemkpali, it turned out that Smith was causing a stir in the locker room just before getting punched. So now within the span of just a week Geno showed poor leadership in the locker room which lead to his injury (however nobody deserves a broken jaw) and now disobeys medical orders.

This is not the first time Geno Smith has shown poor decision making, last season he missed team meetings the day before a game in San Diego. The reason was that he went and watched a movie with teammates and forgot about the time difference, how that is even an excuse is absurd. Then there was the issue when he cursed at a fan. The lack of maturity and leadership shown by Geno Smith last season and so far this preseason does not play well for him to stay a Jet.

His lack of production on the field also plays a factor here. The Jets would be better off to cut him loose and move forward without him.  Who knows what things will be like in 6-10 weeks assuming he can return then. Will he show some more maturation in that span? That is hard to say, but the answer right now looks like a no, clearly he has shown he does not listen to strict orders nor does he show the ability to be a quality leader of a football team.

It is time for the New York Jets to cut Geno Smith and move on in a different direction.
