It was another tough year for Chris Johnson. The once elite running back struggled with his new team, the New York Jets. Johnson rushed for under 1,000 yards for the first time in his seven year career and only scored 1 rushing touchdown. Hard to believe a player that used to put up huge numbers with the Tennessee Titans struggled the way Johnson did. But a move to the Dallas Cowboys could be in play for the former Titan running back who is a free agent.

Johnson said for the Cowboys to "holla at me" back in May and so far there hasn't been any contact between Johnson and the Cowboys. But Cowboys management said he was on their "short list" which led some to believe he would be the replacement for DeMarco Murray. But they went out and signed Darren McFadden instead and killed down most of the hype. But some NFL executives think Johnson still has a legitimate shot at signing with the Cowboys.

If he signs with the Cowboys, it can be safe to say that Johnson should be a favorite to win the starting job come Week 1. Out of all the running backs in Dallas right now, Johnson's biggest competition will be Darren McFadden, who struggled in his time with Oakland.

Adding a solid running back or committee of backs is key for the Dallas Cowboys. After re-signing Dez Bryant, the Cowboys offense just got a whole lot better. Given the success Murray had last year, it is now secret that the offensive line is one of the best in the NFL. If Johnson can find success with this offensive line as well, then he could have another great season like the ones he had with the Titans.

The Cowboys have yet to find a true successor to DeMarco Murray but signing Chris Johnson will certainly improve the running back core in Dallas.
