Each NFL season there are players who are on the hot seat at any given position who must fight to keep their starting job and perhaps even a roster spot. Here is a list of players who are on the hot seat in the 2015 season.

ONE- Geno Smith, QB, Jets

Geno Smith has had a turbulent NFL career in just two NFL seasons, while he has finished both his rookie and second year with solid play his up and down games are a red flag. This year he has a new coaching staff in town and a plethora of new weapons on offense and a stout looking defense to help win games. If he comes out of the gate struggling this could be the end for him in New York, there can be no more excuses for him this year.

TWO- Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Vikings

Cordarrelle was picked in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings back in 2013 and has yet to top 50 receptions or 500 yards in a single season. In 2014 he had the same amount of rushing touchdowns as he did receiving touchdowns (one a piece). Minnesota traded for Mike Wallace in the offseason to help better their receiving Corps, if Patterson cannot improve this year he may be traded or even cut. He has to help second year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater out.

THREE- Darren McFadden, RB, Cowboys

This might seem unfair, but he has only topped 1,000 yards just once in his seven year NFL career, now this is partially due to injuries but now he gets the chance to play behind a strong line in Dallas. He was signed to help fill the hole left by DeMarco Murray who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, a divisional foe. If he can stay healthy and does not produce then Dallas could send him packing, and if could even spell the end of his career. Even if he just splits carries in a running back committee he still needs to show why he deserves to be in the NFL.

FOUR- Dee Milliner, CB, Jets

Milliner was drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and has not produced to a first round level, and he is now on the outside looking in due to the Jets signings in the off-season. Those signings are Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Buster Skrine. Milliner must improve this season and play well when called upon in order to even have a chance of staying a Jet. When he is healthy and on the field that is when he must show why he was a first round pick. With all the added talent at his position he must learn from Cromartie and Revis in order to become a better player.

OTHER NOTABLE PLAYERS:

Jay Cutler, QB, Bears

Andy Dalton, QB, Bengals

D.J. Hayden, CB, Raiders

Dwayne Bowe, WR, Browns
