The Atlanta Falcons, who fired head coach Mike Smith earlier this week, are potentially going to lose their offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons offensive coordinator is reportedly in talks to join the Bucs in the same capacity as he is in with the Falcons.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported several days ago that Dirk Koetter was being courted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to replace their former offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford.

It is even being reported that Koetter, along with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, have already cleared out their private offices and desks, suggesting they aren't expecting on being in ATL by the start of the 2015 season. This would leave Koetter costless to talk with divisional rivals Tampa Bay.

Koetter led the Falcons twice to being a top eight ranked offense within the NFL. The last two seasons the offence is the only thing the Falcons have going for it with their defense struggling, they have had to lean on their offense with quarterback Matt Ryan to get themselves any sort of victory.

However it has to be considered that if the Atlanta Falcons hire a defensive based coordinator such as Dan Quinn  from the Seattle Seahawks it is very likely that he would want to keep Dirk Koetter because of his well documented relationship with Matt Ryan with both of them saying it is great to work together.

Regardless of all this it appears very likely unless the Falcons hire a new head coach very quickly who desperately wants to retain Dirk Koetter, then the Falcons may be looking for a new offensive coordinator as well.
