Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians reported on Monday, that in fact, Carson Palmer had torn his left ACL in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. The injury comes two days after Palmer signed his contract extension with the Cardinals for the next three years. This is the same ACL that he tore in 2006 after signing a contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Palmer was placed on the IR Monday, and Arians told the media that his surgery would be scheduled for approximately two weeks from now to allow for the swelling to subside. Palmer was at the Cardinals' press conference on Monday on crutches, and said he had stepped out of a blitz like that thousands of times. He also said he heard his ACL pop and knew what had happened before doctors diagnosed the injury.

Coach Arians said that with the surgery and recovery time he would expect have Palmer back by June or July. Arians also said that the Cardinals are going to look to bring in a veteran quarterback from the outside, but he will only be an insurance policy. Cardinals' backup Drew Stanton came in to finish the game and Arians said he would get the start (unless he is injured) for the remaining of the season.

Stanton was fantastic in relief of Palmer on Sunday, completing three of his five passes for 85 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown strike to rookie wide receiver John Brown. Stanton has filled in admirably for Palmer throughout this season passing for 614 total yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. Arians has said multiple times he, the coaching staff and the players all have faith in Stanton and believe he will be able to play at a similar level as Palmer.
