Because Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel was having a hard time through the first four games of the National Football League season, the Bills have decided to make a change at the quarterback position. They will start Kyle Orton for week five against the Detroit Lions.

"It's not all EJ's fault, but we need to get better production, obviously, out of that position," coach Doug Marrone said Monday. "We have to make adjustments. We've got to make some changes, because we can't keep going in the direction that we're going."

The former first round pick in 2013 has struggled this season. He has only completed 58 percent of his passes and has only averaged 6.4 yards per pass. However, his longest pass play was 80 yards. Manuel has passed for five touchdowns, but has turned the ball over four times, three interceptions and one fumble.

Kyle Orton was a former fourth round pick out of Purdue University. He is a 10 year veteran who has bounced around with a few teams. He made his debut with the Chicago Bears, after three seasons, he went to play for the Denver Broncos for three seasons. He moved to the Kansas City Chiefs for four games and then played in four games over two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. Eventually, he ended up with the Bills.

During his 75 game career, Orton has passed for 15,019 yards and has averaged 6.63 yards per pass. He added 83 touchdowns and threw 52 interceptions to his opponents.

Last season, he had a 85.3 quarterback rating with 398 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

"It gives him a chance to just step back for a moment, look at things that, you know, we can work on and correct," Marrone said. "And again, he'll have to have some thick skin through this. And you've got to fight, and that's usually what happens in life to get what you want, you're going to have to fight for it."

"I think that he'll be able to grow, I think he'll be able to handle it well from my conversation with him. And he'll be able to continue to grow as a quarterback."

This should take some pressure off of Marrone's shoulders as he tries to make the playoffs and save his job. Currently, he is on the hot seat.
