The New York Jets held the Oakland Raiders to 158 yards of total offense, including 25 yards rushing, while Chris Ivory ran for 102 yards in the Jets' 19-14 win on Sunday. Ivory's 71 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the game for the Jets.

The started the game with a 45 yard field from Nick Folk's leg to take a 3-0 lead after their first drive of the game. That would be the only highlight for the Jets in a frustrating first quarter for the offense.

The next drive for the Jets saw Geno Smith's pass intercepted by Charles Woodson, who made a diving pick after jumping Eric Decker's route. That pick led to Derek Carr's first NFL touchdown pass. On third and 5 from the Jets 12, Carr threw a wide receiver screen pass to Rod Streater, who went to the outside and ran in the ball to give Oakland the 7-3 lead.

The frustration continued into the second quarter when the Jets drove down to the Oakland three yard line, but Geno Smith fumbled trying to get into the end zone and TJ Carrie recovered for the Raiders to end the drive.

The Raiders would not be able to get any more points for the remainder of the half, but the Jets had one last chance to get some points. After driving down to the Oakland 11 yard line, Jets head coach Rex Ryan decided to use some trickery. Chris Johnson was in the Wildcat and he pitched the ball to Michael Vick, who was in the wide receiver position. Vick ended up throwing a pass to a wide open Eric Decker, but the pass led Decker too much and went off his fingertips. The Jets would get a touchdown on the next play when Smith's shovel pass to Chris Johnson, who took five yards for the score. The Jets led 10-7 at halftime.

The third quarter saw little action, except for Smith's fumble on third and four from the Oakland 12. He got the ball back, but lost 12 yards on the play. Nick Folk added his second field goal, this one from 42 yards, to make it 13-7.

The game was still in doubt in the fourth quarter, if the scoreboard was the only indication. However, Oakland was having trouble moving the ball and then came the play that effectively ended the game.

Chris Ivory took the hand off from Smith on first and ten, broke a tackle near the first down marker, and started to outrun the defense. With Ivory still 30 yards away from the end zone, he put his hand up in the air in celebration. He was tackled into the end zone to spare himself the embarrassment of celebrating too early. The Jets failed on the two point conversion, but still led 19-7 with 8 minutes left.

Oakland got a touchdown late in the fourth quarter when Derek Carr hit James Jones deep down the field on the sideline. The pass covered 30 yards and the score was now 19-14. However, the Raiders failed to recover the onside kick.

Derek Carr's first start was okay. He went 20 of 32 for 151 yards with 2 touchdowns. He was also sacked twice for a loss of 18 yards. The Raiders running game was non-existent. They had 25 yards on 15 carries as a team with Darren McFadden leading the way with 15 yards on 4 carries. Maurice Jones-Drew had 11 yards on 9 carries.

Rod Streater had 5 catches for 46 yards and a touchdown. James Jones caught 3 pass for 34 yards and the other touchdown. Mychal Rivera finished with 3 catches for 31 yards.

Geno Smith went 23 of 28 for 221 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was sacked two times for a loss of 31 yards. Smith also added 38 yards via his legs on 10 carries.

Chris Ivory had 102 yards rushing and the long touchdown run. Chris Johnson ran for 68 yards on 13 carries in his regular season debut for the Jets. Eric Decker led the Jets with 5 catches for 74 yards. Jeff Cumberland added 4 catches for 50 yards as the second leading receiver.

The Jets will want to work on their penalties after Sunday's game. They were penalized a total of 11 times for 105 yards.

The Raiders (0-1) will continue the Derek Carr era with a home game against the Houston Texans (1-0). The Texans beat the Washington Redskins 17-6 on Sunday.

For the Jets (1-0), they get the unenviable trip to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers (0-1). The Packers are coming off the opening night drubbing by the Seahawks.
