Kansas City Chiefs' 2014 NFL Draft picks:

Round 1 (23rd Overall)

Round 3 (87th Overall)

Round 4 (124th Overall)

Round 5 (163rd Overall)

Round 6 (193rd Overall) (from Dallas)

Round 6 (200th Overall)

Due to the Alex Smith trade with the San Francisco 49ers last season, the Kansas City Chiefs do not have a second round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, leaving them fairly short handed on draft capital. That being said, the Chiefs have many needs that must be filled in the upcoming draft if they wish to build on their success from last season. Because of all this, a trade down scenario in the first round is certainly possible, if not likely.

Top Needs:

Wide Receiver: Donnie Avery was decent at times last season, but the Chiefs need to add a legitimate WR to play opposite of Dwayne Bowe. Luckily for the Chiefs, this WR class is very deep, and they should be able to find intriguing prospects throughout the draft.

Potential Targets (Projected Round): Brandin Cooks (1), Marqise Lee (1-2), Davante Adams (1-2), Paul Richardson (3), Josh Huff (4-5), and T.J. Jones (6).

Safety: While Eric Berry is one of the most talented players at the strong safety position in the league, the Chiefs have a huge need at costless safety. With Berry excelling at playing near the line of scrimmage, adding a safety who can handle the coverage duties of playing centerfield would make the most sense.

Potential Targets (Projected Round): Jimmie Ward (1-2), Terrence Brooks (2-3), Marqueston Huff (4-5), Ed Reynolds (4-5), Isaiah Lewis (5-6), and Jonathan Dowling (6).

Offensive Line: After losing Branden Albert, Geoff Schwartz, and Jon Asamoah to costless agency the offseason, the Chiefs have plenty of needs up front. They could use help at both tackle, and on the interior of the offensive line, and somebody who could contribute immediately would be preferred. I would not be surprised to see them address the position as early as the first round.

Potential Targets (Projected Round): Cyrus Kouandijo (1-2), Morgan Moses (1-2), Joel Bitonio (1-2), Billy Turner (2-3), Dakota Dozier (2-3), Justin Britt (4-5), Matt Patchan (5-6), and Anthony Steen (6).

Cornerback: Brandon Flowers is a good NFL CB, but opposing teams always seemed to be picking apart the man opposite of him last season. While it may not be their most pressing need, the Chiefs must add a corner in this draft who can hold his own against #2 NFL receivers.

Potential Targets (Projected Round): Pierre Desir (2-3), Bashaud Breeland (3), Jaylen Watkins (3), Walt Aikens (4), Jemea Thomas (4-5), and Dontae Johnson (5).
