After another great college football season, bowl season is getting underway. In the third bowl game of the season, we have the Appalachian State Mountaineers playing the Ohio Bobcats in the Camellia Bowl. The Mountaineers are coming off of a great 10-2 season with their only losses being versus the Clemson Tigers and the Arkansas State Redwolves. Ohio is also coming off of a great season where they went 8-4 with their losses being against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Western Michigan Broncos, Buffalo Bulls, and Bowling Green Falcons. For both teams, Buffalo is the only team not going to a bowl game.

Appalachian State has been led by their sophomore quarterback Taylor Lamb. He has started all 12 games and he has thrown for 2,263 yards this season. They have also been led by their leading receiver Shaedon Meadors who started 11 of their 12 games, had a total of 439 yards for an average of 20.9 yard per play, and his longest catch was for 52 yards. This is Appalachian State's 2nd straight year of bowl eligibility, but due to NCAA rules they couldn't participate because it was their first year in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

They won three straight Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2005 the Mountaineers squeaked past the Northern Iowa Panthers by a score of 21-16. In 2006, the Mountaineers defeated the UMass Minutemen 28-17. In 2007, Appalachian State did something no team had ever done before; they won their third straight FCS Championship by beating the Delaware Blue Hens by a final score of 49-21. They are still one of only two teams to ever win three straight championships.

Ohio has also been led by their senior quarterback Derrius Vick, who started 10 of their 12 games. He has thrown for 158 passes for 1,807 yards with an average of 63.7 yards. Ohio has also been led by their running back A.J. Ouellette, who played all 12 games, was handed off to 137 times and gained  645 yards.

This is Ohio's 6th straight year of bowl eligibility, but they missed out on a bowl game last year. They have only won two of those nine bowl games. In 2011, the Bobcats defeated the Utah State Aggies in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl by a score of 24-23 and in 2012 the Bobcats demolished the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks in the Independence Bowl by a score of 45-14.

Prediction: Appalachian State will be disappointed that they missed out on a Sun Belt championship, but the Mountaineers will consider this a good consolation prize. A confused Ohio team will most likely find themselves struggling for points. Appalachian State wins big.

Final Score: 42-14, Appalachian State
