Trey Lewis has officially joined the Louisville roster as of today. Lewis is a 6'2" guard that originally played at Cleveland State until he decided to transfer for his final year of basketball. He was an all-conference guard that could shoot the lights out of the ball.

“We are really excited to have Trey in our program,” said Pitino. “He is a talented young man with an incredible attitude and his leadership qualities fit perfectly for what we need. He’s a point guard who scores, does a good job of getting in the lane, and sets his teammates up well. Since we’ve played the last four years with two point guards, it’s perfect to continue on that path with our running and pressing style.”

Lewis is expected to be one of the captains at Louisville because he is a senior. He played a single season at Penn State then played two seasons at Cleveland State. At CSU he led the team in scoring with 16.3 PPG, 2.9 AST, and 1.2 STL. He broke the regular season record in threes made with 93 three-point field goals on 42% shooting. Lewis scored 24 of 33 points scored by Cleveland State when they played Louisville this past season. He will step in as the primary three point specialist that the team really needs.

“It was unbelievable playing in the KFC! Yum Center. I had never played in front of such an energetic crowd with loyal fans. I feed off that energy, whether the crowd is for me or against me. It will be great to play for the best fans in the nation now,” said Lewis.

Trey will split the backcourt minutes with Quentin Snider and Donovan Mitchell; he is likely to start at the shooting guard position next to Snider. Louisville hasn't had a reliable knockdown shooter since Luke Hancock and it really showed this season with their offensive struggles. Lewis is hoping to step in and make an immediate impact as the best scorer on the team. He has the chance to lead the Cardinals in scoring coming in because they will be losing Harrell, Rozier, and Blackshear.

“I feel like Louisville is a place that I can thrive in my last year of college,” said Lewis. “I had a list of schools that I was considering, but Coach Pitino really expressed his want and need for me. He and the staff can really help me maximize my potential and I look forward to the development. There’s so much that I can learn.”

Expect Trey Lewis to be the guy with the ball the most. He will get the green light to shoot the ball because there is no one else yet that has proven they can be reliable. Lewis will also help freshman Mitchell in progressing his game and challenging him every day. Trey was one of the best players on the market this offseason and Louisville is lucky to have grabbed him quickly.

“Another big part of my decision to come to Louisville was my time with the players while I was on my visit, because I am big on relationships. I think it’s a team with a great bond, they made me feel like I was part of the family already and they told me how much that they wanted me to be their teammate. There’s no one envious of others and I wanted them to know that I’m going to work my tail off to earn their trust,” said Lewis.

Trey Lewis is a huge pickup for the Cardinals. They are now back in the mix of things heading into next season.

Don’t expect anything but big things from this kid. Pitino’s first one-and-done player should be a fantastic player in the program and a fan favorite early.
