Having been quiet for much of his sophomore NBA season, Mitch McGary has propelled himself into the headlines this summer for all the wrong reasons.
The Oklahoma City Thunder man failed a drug test back in the early part of July, resulting in a five-game ban from the NBA for the upcoming season.
However, things have gone from bad to worse. Within the past week, McGary's suspension has been tripled to 15 games, having failed to comply with the league's drug policy.
McGary was already on the trading block with OKC, having failed to impress since his drafting in 2014.
His value on the market will have only dropped following his increased suspension, meaning the Thunder may find it tough to find a suitor for the big man.
McGary's trade may be able to bring in a future second-round draft pick, but he's unlikely to offer much leverage at all in a serious deal.
If that's the case, the former Michigan Wolverine will more than likely be released, with OKC needing to trim their current roster by one.
But could he stay?
If trade rumors are to be believed, then the Thunder are seriously shopping for a new small forward ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
Rudy Gay, Blake Griffin and Paul George among others have been linked with the Northwest Division champions, but having seen Kevin Durant leave for nothing, the Thunder don't have a whole lot to offer.
In any potential trade, Oklahoma City will need to offer at least two or three players, and Enes Kanter and Ersan Ilyasova could both be sacrificed. If that's the case, the Thunder may have to bite the bullet with Mitch and keep him on the roster, albeit in another backseat role.
McGary is still on a rookie scale contract until the end of next season, meaning his salary is not a serious dent in OKC's finances. The power forward averaged just 3.6 minutes per game across the 2015/16 season, scoring just 1.3 points per game in the process. He came off the bench on just 20 occasions, before leaving the team towards the end of the season for personal reasons.
