Free-agent shooting guard Dahntay Jones has reached an agreement on a non-guaranteed deal with the Brooklyn Nets, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The 11-year veteran joins a Brooklyn team that possesses 12 guaranteed contracts and several partially guaranteed players, giving Jones a great opportunity to make the roster.

Jones, 34, will have to battle Quincy Miller, Willie Reed, Donald Sloan, Markel Brown, and Ryan Boatright for a spot on the team.

Last season, the former first-round pick played 33 games for the Los Angeles Clippers, earning merely 3.7 minutes per contest. The journeyman has also had stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks.

Statistically, his best year came with the Pacers during the 2009-2010 campaign, as he averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 76 games played.

However, Jones is a limited offensive player, as he mainly provides defensive tenacity and nastiness. If he is capable of making the Nets roster, he will more than likely serve as the third string shooting guard behind Joe Johnson and newly acquired Wayne Ellington.

Either way, adding a defensive-minded veteran to the squad could help Brooklyn and some of its young players. Additionally, Jones shares a close bond with head coach Lionel Hollins as the two spent time together in Memphis when Hollins was an assistant coach from 2003-2007.

The Nets roster now stands at 18, with two more additional spots remaining for potential acquisitions to the team before the start of training camp.
