According to numerous media reports, the Timberwolves are going to re-sign long-time veteran Kevin Garnett, and it is the right move for the Timberwolves. Garnett, who averaged 6.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 20 minutes with Minnesota, will be a huge influence on the Timberwolves' locker room.

For a team with young players like Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, a player like Kevin Garnett could be a huge influence on them and the locker room. He can help them improve their game and help Minnesota grow.

The future is bright for the T-Wolves. They have a good, young big man in Towns and a good backcourt with players like Tyus Jones, Zach LaVine, and Andrew Wiggins. Not to mention they already have players like Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic on the roster as well. Garnett won't be expected to play a lot of minutes but his influence will be on the team. He will push them and show them the things they need to do to become champions.

In terms of free agency for the Timberwolves, don't expect them to go out and pursue any free agents. The only free agents they are considering bringing back are Garnett and Robbie Hummel who is a restricted free agent. With most of the roster under contract, the Timberwolves are set for next season. With a young roster, not much will be expected from the Timberwolves but the future looks bright. If Karl-Anthony Towns turns out to be the player many are projecting he will be, then Minnesota can be a contender down the road.

Signing Garnett might not be a splashy move, and it won't be one that helps the Timberwolves as much on the court. But it gives Minnesota's young stars a mentor that they can learn from. Garnett's influence will be all over Minnesota, and it is nice to see Garnett give back to the team that drafted him 20 years ago.
