Contrary to previous reports of Reggie Jackson going to the Brooklyn Nets, the Detroit Pistons have swooped in last second and stolen him right out of their hands. This is a very surprising move that guarantees the Pistons a solid replacement for Brandon Jennings.
As part of the deal, Oklahoma City Thunder netted Kyle Singler, a good backup small forward for Kevin Durant, a replacement backup point guard in D.J. Augustin who has been very good since Jennings got injured, and a solid big in Enes Kanter, who looks to hold down the frontcourt for the Thunder for a few years in the future. The Thunder also added a good shooter in Steve Novak.
Meanwhile, the Jazz received Kendrick Perkins, Grant Jerrett, and a protected future first-round draft pick from the Thunder. Additionally, they obtained a future second-round draft pick from Detroit. The Jazz is expected to buyout Perkins.
So, to summarize:
Detroit gets Reggie Jackson
Utah gets Kendrick Perkins, Grant Jerrett, a first-round pick (via OKC), and a second-round pick (via DET)
Oklahoma City gets: Kyle Singler, D.J. Augustin, Steve Novak, and Enes Kanter
This is just one of the many crazy last-minute deals that happened at the deadline, but it gives all three teams exactly what they want. The Thunder added more shooting, a potent center, and bench depth, while the Jazz received cap relief and picks. Meanwhile, the Pistons got a point guard who will be a terrific filler for Jennings and could possibly be their future.
