The Houston Rockets have agreed to sign head coach Kevin McHale to a three-year, nearly $13 million contract extension, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The Rockets have gotten off to a strong start to the season, going 20-7 while playing through hoards of injuries. McHale’s coaching has played an enormous part in the team’s early success.

McHale was on the final year of his contract, and the team has headed into the right direction with him at the helm, so signing him to an extension was absolutely deserving.

McHale began his coaching career with the Rockets in 2011. He has coached them to a 153-104 record, which is a .595 win percentage. The team has made it to the playoffs the last two years but has been eliminated in the first round.

Kevin McHale’s extension will keep him with the Houston Rockets until 2018. The Rockets have made extraordinary moves this season, as they continue to play at a championship level.
