Ex-Laker, Luke Walton is finalizing a deal with the Golden State Warriors to become their assistant coach under Steve Kerr.

Walton was initially linked to the New York Knicks’ head coaching position and later their assistant coaching job under former teammate Derek Fisher. This will be Walton’s first stint as an assistant coach in the NBA.

He does have a slight amount of experience as he was mentored by Phil Jackson in Los Angeles as a player coach. Walton has also worked for the Lakers’ D-League affiliate team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders as a player development coach. He was most recently a Lakers analyst on Time Warner Cable Sports Network.

The Warriors continue to work on constructing a staff around Steve Kerr.
