The New York Liberty defeat the Washington Mystics

Despite a valiant effort and a season high in points by Mystics guard Matee Ajavon (20 pts ), The Mystics fell to the Liberty 78-88.

The Liberty started off with an early lead and held it for most of the first quarter. Liberty Forward Kara Braxton was seemingly unstoppable. Braxton couldn’t miss a shot in the first half of the game. I’m not exaggerating, she was a perfect 6 for 6 at the half. In the end, she piled on 22 pts, and grabbed 8 boards.

Though impressive, Braxton had a ton of help from her teammates. Cappie Pondexter scored 19 points, while Kelsey Bone added 15 points and 11 boards.

The Mystics staged a bit of a comeback by the third quarter but it wasn’t enough to pull off a win. Mystics guard Ivory Latta (who was recently voted player of the week) only managed 11 pts on 5-14 shooting, which was particularly low for her.

The Mystics started off the game sharing the ball very well, but that trend did not last. As a team the only managed 12 assist for the entire game.
