Rafael Nadal and four-time Olympic Champion Mo Farah are two of the 26 sportspeople who are the latest stars to have their medical data, showing the use of Therapeutic Use Exemptions, leaked by Russian hackers Fancy Bears.

The country targeted predominantly, this time, is Great Britain, with eight of those leaked from the United Kingdom. Four stars from America have also had their medical data released, with a further four from Canada.

Sports stars from Argentina, Belgium, Burundi, Denmark, France, and Hungary have also had their use of Therapeutic Use Exemptions revealed.

High profile stars have TUE use revealed

The biggest star to have had their medical data released is 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, who has had two TUE’s; one for betamethasone, and one for corticotrophins.

Like Nadal, running great Farah has had two exemptions in his career, whilst fellow Brit, golfer Justin Rose, had an exemption for prednisolone earlier this year.

Gymnast Laurie Hernandez and Connor Jaeger, who both medaled at Rio 2016, have also had their medical data released, as have their fellow Americans, athlete Ariana Washington and archer Brady Ellison.

Furthermore, four Canadian soccer stars, Christine Sinclair, Melissa Tancredi, Rhian Wilkinson, and Sophie Schmidt, have all been named.

Other sportspeople targeted

Once again, British athletes have been heavily targeted in the hack; as well as Farah and Rose, Hockey players Alex Danson, Crista Cullen, and Samantha Quek, rowers Pete Reed and Helen Glover, and cyclist Callum Skinner (who all won gold in Rio) have had their use of TUE’s revealed.

As well as the three British women, Field Hockey stars Lucas Martin Rey and Facundo Callioni, from Argentina, and Belgium’s Loick Luypaert have had their medical data leaked, as have swimmers Laszlo Cseh and Dimitri Bascou.

Fencer Gauthier Grumier, athlete Francine Niyonsaba, handballer Casper Mortensen, and road cyclist Niklas Larsen are the other sports stars who have had their TUE use revealed.
