The team representing the Great Lakes region defeated the team representing the Midwest region on Monday night in a winner's bracket game of the 2016 Little League World Series thanks to a 10-run seventh inning.

Midwest strikes first

Midwest actually got on the board first, as Owen Dawson drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the second. He advanced on a wild pitch, moved up to third on a single by Tyler Moore, and scored on a wild pitch to put them up 1-0.

Great Lakes responded in the top of the third inning when Devin Obee reached on a fielder's choice. He advanced to second when Spencer Newman drew a walk, advanced to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one. They got another run in the fourth inning when Carson Myers led off with a single, advanced to third on a double from Mason Williams, and scored on a fielder's choice hit by Drew Wolfram to give Great Lakes the lead.

Midwest responds with two runs

Midwest scored two runs in their half of the inning when JT Puk was hit by a pitch with two outs. He advanced to second when Tyler Moore drew a walk, advanced to third when Matt Pineda drew a walk and scored when M Risley singled. Moore also scored on the play to make it 3-2 in favor of Midwest.

Great Lakes tied the game in the fifth when Newman led off with a single. He advanced to second when John Guthrie drew a walk, advanced to third when Turner Nottmeier was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at three.

Neither team was able to score in the sixth inning, which sent the game to a seventh inning, which is when the ceiling fell in for the Midwest. Isaiah Head led off for Great Lakes with a double, advanced to third when Wolfram singled and scored when P Forbes drew a walk. After a series of walks and hits, the inning finally ended, but when it did the score was 14-3 in favor of Great Lakes.

Midwest had a chance at a rally in the bottom of the inning, as they were able to load the bases with no outs, but were only able to get one run, as the middle of the lineup was unable to get the job done, and the Great Lakes walked away with a 14-4 win to put them in the US Semifinals against the team from the Mid-Atlantic region. The Midwest will now play an elimination game on Tuesday against the team from the New England regional.
