Last night's Raw saw the second match in the 'Best of Seven Series' between Cesaro and Sheamus and it was another physical match between two of the most physical athletes in the WWE

The Swiss Superman appeared to be in severe pain as the match drew to its close and the WWE confirmed today that he has indeed suffered an injury to his lumbar spine, their official statement stated the following:

"Cesaro suffered multiple contusions to the lumbar spine during his match against Sheamus Monday on Raw, WWE.com can confirm. Late in the match, Sheamus backdropped Cesaro into the turnbuckle before locking him in the Cloverleaf."

Cesaro followed this up himself with a tweet claiming, "Well.. I guess I'm not working out or anything this week."

Injury issue

There have been no details on the severity of this injury and whether or not Cesaro will be forced to miss a period of action but the fact neither WWE or Cesaro himself stated that is a sign that it isn't too serious.

With Cesaro currently locked in a feud with the Celtic Warrior, that is set to last potentially five more matches, the WWE will be hoping that it is only a short term injury so that the feud isn't stopped. Both men are known for their physical, hard-hitting styles and that is what their two matches so far have included.

The risk with this is that if Cesaro's injury isn't seriously injured, another match could make that injury worse which would be a serious problem for Cesaro. Having only come back from his shoulder injury several months ago, Cesaro is now hoping to build himself back up and reach the level that fans are hoping he can do.

The winner of this series is going to gain a title shot (even though that wasn't previously announced) and Cesaro is most fans pick to win, which could, therefore, set up a bigger feud down the line. To do that the injury would need to not be serious and the WWE Universe will be hoping to see him back in action next week ready for match 3 of this series.
