Kurt Angle has not set foot in a WWE ring since 2006, when he faced off against Sabu on an episode of ECW, marking his last bout for the company.

Fast forward 10 years later and the veteran may finally be edging towards a return to the company that he made a name for himself in.

The Olympic Gold Medalist has been a key figure in Total Nonstop Action wrestling since leaving the WWE opting for a lighter and less hectic schedule.

He became a mainstay at the company up until his departure this year where his last match saw him defeated by Bobby Lashley on March 8.

Now a free agent and becoming an ever more frequent face on the Independent Scene, Angle may have signaled his intention to become a part of the 'New Era' of WWE thanks to his recent Facebook post.

He said, "I see so much talent in wrestling today, but I don't believe that wrestling has an identity anymore."

He continued, talking about the past 'eras' that have been present in WWE as he said "The Attitude Era in 1997-2002. And the Ruthless Aggression Era 2003-2009. What makes it special today besides the young array of talent?"

Angle has questioned the motive of the up and coming young stars breaking through in the company but feels as if they are lacking "something" to "ignite" the "Wrestling fans."

"What makes it special today besides the young array of talent? They need something to ignite the wrestling fans-" to ignite the Universe"

The 47-year-old did not leave his post there, he went on and may have a left a thread that wrestling fans will be pulling on  hoping to entice the former World Champion back to the squared circle of WWE.

He said "It's time to lead the charge. STAY TUNED---‪#ýitstrue‬ ‪#ýletsmakewrestlinggreatagain‬ ‪#ýLMWGA"

The position of General Manager may have opened up, with the recent announcement of the Brand Split, it may signal that Angle could be one man who could take the hot-seat of either Raw or SmackDown

The American Hero stated that he left the company because he "could not do the full time anymore" he said he had been paying attention to TNA and decided it was an easier schedule.

He said "TNA was making some noise" and that "Vince (McMahon) wanted me to continue" on a "full time "basis" and I just "could not do the full time anymore."

He also said in his 2015 interview with WrestleTalk TV that he does not "know" how "John Cena" has managed to cope with the demands and pressure of the company for "11 years."

On his decision to jump ship to TNA he said it was "great" to be able to "set my own hours" and "generate interest" from "fans" by "wrestling Samoa Joe" and "AJ Styles" as he compared the latter's ability as equal to that of Shawn Michaels.

Following his recent release from his WWE contract, Cody Rhodes formerly known as Stardust has wasted very little time in making a list of superstars he still has dreams of wrestling.

One of the names on that list was Angle and the two have wasted little time in setting up a huge bout that will take place in 3 months time.

Rhodes will face The Most Celebrated Real Athlete in WWE History at Wrestling Under the Stars at the Duchess Stadium in New York on August 27, 2016.

Two wrestlers, both with a wrestling background, who both left the same company on their own terms will meet, in what is sure to be a huge clash, and may be the first match in Rhodes' indie career.
