He's making it look easy.

Jason Day jumped out to an early lead at the BMW Championship, the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, after an opening round 61. He followed that up with a second round 63, putting him in well in front of the rest of the pack, and started Sunday with a six shot lead. Despite not playing his best golf on Sunday, no one came close. Day fired a final round 69 to win by six strokes.

The victory moves Day past Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, and makes him World Number One for the first time in his career. Becoming the number one golfer in the world was always a big goal for Day, and he admitted to having nerves entering Sunday's final round.

"To be honest, I've had terrible sleep over the last few nights thinking about getting to No. 1, thinking about winning this tournamentbecause I had such a big lead and I didn't want to give it back," Day said.

Day is not only officially the number one ranked golfer in the world, but he is playing like it's not even close at the moment. Day had two disappointing moments at majors in the summer - the US Open, where he suffered a bout of vertigo during the opening round and eventually finished tied for ninth, and the Open Championship, where he came a missed putt away from being in the playoff. Since then, Day has been on an absolute tear. He won in Canada, ran away from the field for his first major at the PGA Championship, and dominated The Barclays. He has won four times in his last six starts, with three of those being decisive victories.

Day takes a commanding lead in the FedEx Cup into the Tour Championship, though anyone inside the top 5 in the standings has the ability to win the FedEx Cup with a victory in East Lake regardless of what Day does. Still, with only 29 other players to beat, Day will be the overwhelming favorite.

"Whatever Jason Day is doing, or which course he's playing, it's ridiculous," said Danny Lee, who enters the Tour Championship ranked 19th in points.

The victory is Day's fifth of the season, making him the third player after Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh to win fives times in a season since 2000. It is also Day's seventh PGA Tour victory, which is amazing when you consider that Day had only one win to his credit entering the 2014 PGA Tour season.

Rookie Daniel Berger finished in solo second behind Day. It is Berger's second runner up finish of the season, but he entered the playoffs struggling. He had missed five cuts in a row entering the Deutsche Bank Championship, where he finished T12. The second place finish moves Berger into the Tour Championship. He entered this week ranked 46th in points.

Scott Piercy was another player on the outside looking in entering the BMW Championship. He was ranked 44th in points, but a solo third finish boost him to 20th and gets him a tee time at East Lake.

Three players finished tied for fourth, including Rory McIlroy and Deutsche Bank champion Rickie Fowler. Fowler is one of the players with a chance to win the FedEx Cup with a victory at East Lake. McIlroy will need a lot of help in order to walk out with the Cup, but a victory will allow him to retake the top spot in the World Golf Rankings. Both are likely to be Day's closest pursuers at the final tournament of the season. Tied with Fowler and McIlroy was JB Holmes

Rounding out the top 10 were Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Tringale. For Matsuyama, it was his ninth top 10 of the season, and first since June. The 23 year old is seeking his second PGA Tour victory, and has the game to contend at East Lake. This was Johnson's third top 10 finish in four weeks, and tenth overall in a season that included a victory. For Tringale, however, a top 10 was not good enough to move on. Entering 55th in points, Tringale needed one more birdie to have a chance to move on to East Lake. He will finish 36th in points.

Two other players jumped into East Lake with good performances this week. The first was Kevin Na. He moves from 34th to 27th and guarantees himself one more week this season. The other was Harris English, who entered this week 32nd in points, but finished right at number 30. The player he knocked out was Daniel Summerhayes, who was in good shape after a third round 66, but a final round 71 sunk his chances.
