The St. Paul Saints hosted the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Sunday evening in game two of their three-game series after the Saints won on Saturday night 7-4. The Saints sent Pedro Hernandez, a left-hander, to the mound, while Winnipeg countered with right-hander Anthony Smith.

Winnipeg got the scoring started instantly as Adam Heisler, the leadoff batter, started the game with a home run to right field to give the Goldeyes the early 1-0 lead. The Saints responded in the bottom of the inning when Alonzo Harris led off the inning with a single to right field. He then stole second base and advanced to third when the catcher Luis Allen threw the ball into center field. That set up Mike Kvasnicka for an RBI fielder's choice to center field that caught Vinny DiFazio in no man's land between second and third. DiFazio would be put out for the second out of the inning, then Joey Paciorek struck out to end the inning.

The second inning saw more scoring by both teams, as Winnipeg got the inning started with a leadoff hit-by-pitch by Reggie Abercrombie. Brad Boyer then hit into a fielder's choice that saw Abercrombie forced out at second base for the first out of the inning. Luis Allen then grounded out to second base to advance Boyer to second. Boyer scored on a Tillman Pugh RBI single to left field. Boyer barely beat the throw home to give the Goldeyes the lead back.

The Saints then put up three runs in their half of the inning, thanks to a leadoff single by Ryan Lashley. He then advanced to second when Anthony Phillips singled to right field. That put runners on first and second for Harris, who reached on a error by the second baseman. The Saints then scored  when Willie Argo walked, forcing Lashley to score. Vinny DiFazio then singled to left field to score Phillips and Harris to give the Saints the 4-2 lead.

Winnipeg responded in the top of the third when Casio Grider hit a solo home run to left field to trim the deficit to one run. Winnipeg then had a scoring chance, as Casey Haerther hit a double to left field, which was followed up by Josh Mazzola single to left field that advanced Haerther to third base. The Saints would get out of the inning when Hernandez struck out both the remaining batters to limit the damage to one run.

The Saints erupted again in the fourth inning as Phillips led off the inning with a single to center field. He then advanced to second when Harris hit a single to left field. After Argo flew out, DiFazio drew a walk to load the bases for Angelo Songco. Winnipeg then made a pitching change, bringing in left-handed pitcher Brendan Lafferty. Lafferty would get Songco to fly out to left field, but Phillips would score on the play. Kvasnicka then hit a stand up triple to right center field to score both Harris and DiFazio to extend the lead to 7-3.

The Saints scored again in the fifth inning when Lashley hit a leadoff double, he then came all the way around to score when Phillips hit a single to left field to extend the Saints lead to 8-3. Winnipeg then got one run back in the seventh when Heisler drew a one out walk. He then advanced to second when Casio Grider grounded out. Heisler scored when Haerther singled to left field to trim the lead to 8-4.

The Goldeyes scored again in the eighth when Boyer drew a one out walk. He advanced to second when Allen singled to center field. Ryan Babineau then came into pinch run for Allen, and both Babineau and Boyer advanced on a wild pitch. That set up Pugh for a sacrifice fly out to right field that scored Boyer and made it a three run St. Paul lead. The Saints then brought in closer Ryan Rodebaugh to try and get the four out save, and he retired Chris Robinson for the final out of the inning.

The Saints were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth, which set up Rodebaugh for the save. Winnipeg sent Adam Heisler to lead off the ninth. Heisler grounded out to Rodebaugh for the first out of the inning. Casio Grider then stepped up to the plate, he popped out to first baseman Angelo Songco for the second out of the inning. That left Casey Haerther as the last hope for Winnipeg. He hit a towering fly ball to second baseman Steve Nikorak, who caught it to secure the win for the Saints.

The win lowers the Saints magic number to clinch the North Division to four. They have the chance on Monday night to lower it to just two. The two teams finish their series then, as the Saints go for the sweep.
