Despite a league-worst 28-51 record thus far in the 2015 season, the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, saw five players selected to the Eastern Division All-Star Team. They became one of three Eastern Division squads to have five players on the team. Pitchers William Cuevas and Robby Scott, along with infielders Carlos Asauje, Jantzen Witte, and Marco Hernandez will represent the Sea Dogs at the All-Star game on July 15th. The game will be played at Portland's home stadium, Hadlock Field, for the first time in 10 years. Last time the game was held in Portland, the All-Star game featured stars like Hanley Ramirez and Michael Bourn, who are now everyday major league players.

Cuevas, a right-handed starting pitcher out of Venezuala, leads the Sea Dogs in wins with seven and strikeouts with 70. He leads all Portland starters with a 3.75 ERA and his 1.32 WHIP. His win total is tied for fourth in the Eastern League.

Scott is the only southpaw on the Eastern Division roster. Serving mainly as a reliever for Portland, Scott accumulated a 1-1 record and a 2.04 ERA. The Florida State alum is the only Portland pitcher with a WHIP below 1 (0.96).

Carlos Asuaje played second base, third base, and sometimes left field for the Sea Dogs. Asuaje, drafted out of Nova Southeastern University, was hot for the first portion of the season (.260 batting average with three home runs through May) but cooled down significantly in June (.202 average). His average is down to .240 but his hot start was enough to earn him a spot on the All-Star roster.

Jantzen Witte, drafted after a full career at TCU, has played first base and a little bit of third base for the Sea Dogs. Witte was hitting over .300 for a while but cooled down in June. However, he is still hitting .277 with four home runs and 42 RBI.

Marco Hernandez has blossomed after a slow start to the season. An undrafted free agent picked up by the Chicago Cubs, Boston acquired Hernandez in a trade last year in exchange for major league starter Felix Doubront. He is hitting .313 in his first year in the Red Sox system, while accumlating four home runs and three stolen bases.

The Sea Dogs coaching staff, led by 2014 Eastern League manager of the year Billy McMillon, will coach the Eastern Division All-Stars.
Other notable players in the All-Star game include Orioles prospect Mychal Givens (MLB experience in 2015) representing the Bowie Baysox of the Western Division, and the Yankees' prized catching prospect Gary Sanchez, the only player on the Eastern Division squad on a 40-man roster.
