The long awaited season 1 finale of Lucha Underground is finally upon us. After a long hiatus due to the holidays we finally get to see the thrilling conclusion for a promotion that has done more than meet the expectations. So much so that recently the founding organization Lucha Libre AAA has applied for more than 20 patents including all of the entire season one roster. If you have been following the show then you for some time the outcome of the first Aztec Warriors match was already divulged, but that’s no reason to turn away from the high flying leg kicking entertainment we have been enjoying thus far. Give credit to the creators for knowing that the largest promotion in sports entertainment has an upcoming eliminating man pay per view to do this match. While it was not 30 luchadores participating the fact that you could only win by pin fall or submission allowed for tons of extraordinary things to happen.

It’s damn hard trying to recap one match with so much action but I will give it my best. The previous episode saw Fenix take the first entry spot while the last went to Mil Muertes. The only roster member not included in this match would be Blue Demon Jr, as the rest of the luchadores were all given a slot. The main question is how would they all deal with the power of Mil Muertes and Big Ryck what alliances and grudges would lead the luchas to defeat or victory. Fenix and Johnny Mundo kicked off the match and shall we say they were off to the races. Soon members of the crew, Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, Prince Puma and even Pimpinela Escarlata were all in the ring duking it out. Once Drago and King Cuerno were in the match their feud showed it’s evil head.

Even Big Ryck gave an assist to Cuerno as tossed Drago onto his shoulders to help him complete his finisher. Though no true loyalties were set as once anyone helped out another they soon met the same fate. Don’t count out the ladies in the match as both Ivileese and Sexy Star both had their shining moments in the match. Actually Ivelisse I felt out did what we saw from Sexy as she proved to be more athletic than we thought before. It was truly an entertaining spectacle and a great performance by all included.

The final four the 19 man match was between Sexy Star, Prince Puma, Johnny Mundo and of course the fresh Mil Muertes. Chavo took out most of the competition with his trusty migo (a steel chair) but was eliminated by Sexy Star with an assist from who else but Blue Demon Jr. After she was eliminated we saw a flurry of combination between Mundo and Puma as the two worked to finish of Muertes. Katrina climbed the apron and was almost hit by Puma and Mil but it ended up being Mundo who accidently kicked her in the face after going after Puma.

This gave just enough of a distraction for the boys to beat Muertes. That left Mundo and Puma and even though both men were clearly fatigued they gave it all to provide a great final moments of the show. Johnny’s finisher did not work on Puma and neither did his first attempt. After a botched attempt by Mundo Prince Puma was able to line him up for a 630 splash and take the victory and the first ever championship belt.

All in all it was a dynamic first season for Lucha Underground and bodes well for what’s to come. The second season tapings should start soon and we hear rumors of new teams and announcers making their way to the temple. In 2015 we will more than likely see the premieres of Cage, El Patron and even possibly another former masked legend that is quite unhappy with his current situation. No matter the case we are pumped Lucha Underground and if you were a fan of cruiserweights from the past you would be too!
